Although floating photovoltaics are still in the development stage on a global scale, P&S still believes that it is not accidental that floating photovoltaics are increasingly being valued by the government and the market.

As the global energy transition process continues to accelerate, countries have set specific renewable energy development goals. In order to realize the established installed capacity as soon as possible, the construction of large-scale photovoltaic power plants is indispensable. However, the current mainstream centralized ground photovoltaic power plants have been criticized for occupying a large area of land. In contrast, floating photovoltaic projects can use lakes, reservoirs, and oceans. Waiting for the surface of idle water bodies, the advantages are obvious.

P&S pointed out in the report: “Although photovoltaic power generation is green and reliable, some investors are reluctant to choose traditional ground-based photovoltaic power plant projects due to land occupation problems. If the available land area becomes more and more limited in the future, the land occupation problem may affect photovoltaic power generation The overall development space of the industry. Floating photovoltaics can effectively solve this dilemma.”

According to the latest research report released by industry research organization DNVGL, if the reservoirs of existing hydropower stations around the world are used to develop floating photovoltaic projects, the potential installed capacity will reach 4 terawatts.
